For example, in a pub, the IoT might consist of the broadband coming into the router that then allows tills, hand-held EPoS devices, chip-and-pin machines, kitchen management solution, guest wi-fi, TVs, streaming boxes and anything else that relies on the internet to work and communicate with each other.

If, for whatever reason, the internet goes down then all those connected devices – the IoT – cease to work. For any business – especially one in the hospitality or retail sector – this disruption to service could be disastrous and may lead to a significant loss of business and a damaged reputation.

The Solution:
The solution is simple: have a router that is not only connected to the broadband but has a sim card plugged in so, should the internet fail, the router receives a data connection from a mobile network and all the connected devices carry on as normal. The sim card is only activated once the cable signal is no longer detected so you don’t rack up a mobile bill while it’s not in use.
