The future is now...

The Big Switch Off

By January 2027, the UK’s traditional telephone network will have been switched off for everyone. And, yes, we mean everyone - every home and every business. You may remember the television switchover from Analogue to Digital, this is the same, just for existing Broadband and Telephone services.

What this means is that every device connected to the network – computers, laptops, printers, phones, alarms, CCTV, door entry systems and payment machines - will be affected.

Whilst this may be a challenge to your business, it’s also a great opportunity to review your existing contracts so everything is seamless, integrated and streamlined, which will enhance your customer’s experience, reduce your costs and increase your profit margins.

So, what's next?

You’ve probably heard of something called “the cloud”. Essentially it’s a global network of severs (a type of computer designed to store vast amounts of data) that are hooked together and are meant to operate as a single ecosystem. You access the cloud via your internet connection – whether that’s delivered via a cable, wi-fi or a mobile network.

As internet connections continue to get faster and more reliable for many users, the new network is ‘fibre only’ and switching is most definitely a question of “when” and not “if”. Making the change sooner rather than later will mean you can stay ahead of the game and future-proof your business before the rush next year.

We understand that this change may be confusing and raise some real concerns, but there’s no need to worry. As with all changes in technology, there’s loads of jargon and technical terms floating around, but you don’t need to know any of them. We’re not here to blind you with science so here’s Depending on where your business is situated, one of three solutions will be available to you:

1. Full-fibre straight into your premises
2. Fibre without a landline
3. Sim-enabled router – broadband over the Mobile network.

The Benefits

Digital-based communication solutions offer a wide range of features and controls which can increase efficiency and productivity. Flexible working also becomes available by enabling staff to work from anywhere. Choosing the best solutions for your business is critical and can open the ability to utilise your communication solutions via a laptop, tablet or even your mobile phone. Most features that we have historically used on our traditional analogue telephone systems are replicated in replacement digital solutions whilst offering many more functionalities to benefit the user.

Cost Savings

It costs far less to have fibre broadband than it does a traditional landline. Calls and data are cheaper (if not free) and if you package all your tech up into one account you can make some huge savings, meaning more profit for you. It also means no more costly server sitting in your office, saving you on your energy bills as well!

More Efficient

Not only are you saving money, you’re also saving something even more valuable – time. All your processes, systems and data are in one place, just one or two clicks away. No more paper trails and laborious, time-consuming admin – you and your team all working on an integrated and connected system – and you can stay in control of it all.

Scalability

As your business grows, your connectivity services can grow with you and at very low cost. Want or need to add more devices or services? Easy. Want to have dedicated lines into your business for added speed and reliability? Done. The Cloud makes it easier and more cost-effective to scale your business than ever before.

Flexibility

Flexible working also becomes available by enabling staff to work from anywhere as they can access communication solutions via a laptop, tablet or a mobile phone. If you’ve got your team out on the road, working from home or another office all your devices (phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers) can be used on the go, all connecting to one network and integrated into one account.

Jargon-buster

Take Action Today

Here are the top five things you need to do to get ahead of the game…

1. Check that you have a reliable and strong internet connection, like fibre.

2. Find out when your contract is due to be renewed.

3. Don’t be tempted simply to renew your existing contract for the sake of an easy life.

4. Don’t buy outdated hardware such as desk phones and phone lines now.

5. If you need to switch, choose a Cloud-based telephone service.
